Motor insurance is mandatory in the UAE. You can have a choice between 2 types of policies, either 3rd Party, also known as TPL or Comprehensive policy also known as Full Insurance.
3rd PARTY LIABILITY OR TPL – This is the cheapest form of insurance that is mandatory in the UAE. In such a Policy the other Party’s costs are covered. This could range from anything from a vehicle damage to hospital bills or repair to any infrastructure. However in such a case any damage to your own car will not be covered. Keeping in mind that the bigger the damage the bigger the burden on you. We do personally believe to pay a little extra and have the peace of mind. Some insurance companies will automatically quote a TPL if it is a very old car or is of non GCC specifications.
COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE – Any given day we would advise our clients to purchase a comprehensive policy. Spending a few hundred Dirhams today can save you with larger financial hits later on. In a comprehensive insurance policy you are completely covered as well as the other vehicle if any. It doesn’t matter whether its your fault of the other cars. Even unfortunate unforeseen events such as fires, flooding, vandalism and thefts are also covered. Any cars that are taking a loan from the bank need to be covered under this type of policy.
